Saw this elsewhere, and even though I’m not a parent, this guy is actually trying to do something about his disrespectful ass kid.

I’m just glad someone is finally doing something about their children not acting right. I see far too many parents getting walked all over by their kids. The kids think it’s cool or whatever to do it.

Here’s the ad, just in case it gets removed.

Kinja'd!!!

I have my sons truck up for sale that I bought for him as his first car, he thinks it’s cool to drive around with his friends smokin dope and acting all thug and especially not showing me and my wife the respect that we deserve. This was a vehicle to finish school in, get a decent job and get a head start on life but chose to throw it all away because his friends would rather have an influence on him more than me! Now he can put those Jordans to use walk his ass off on these hot summer days! It has ice cold air and power everything! It’s dirty as hell inside and out because he didn’t respect it and take pride, seems to drive well but needs a few parts because it squeaks! I just put new tires on it that he never paid me for because dope was more important and driver seat doesn’t come all the way up, I guess cause cops kept riding by! If you live on the WESTSIDE I’ll take $250 off the price just so he sees it every now and then so it’ll remind him of how good he had it! I have title in hand!

Yea, when I saw it. I just wanted to shake that dudes hand for that. It’s amazing that there’s parents that find legal ways to punish and embarrass their kids.

I watched a video, he’s even selling it with a roach in the cupholder. FREE WEED! lol.

yeah, that is some frustrating stuff right there, when you are doing everything that you possibly can think of to get your kid to do right..... and they still go and keep after the same stupid thing....

time to try that OTHER way........

If they had done a good job at parenting their child wouldn’t be acting out like this. “Respect me or I take away your toys” is brutish. Obviously we can’t know the situation, but ten bucks says they have no idea how to communicate with their child and never have.

I lost it when he said “acting all thug”.

When I was being an idiot kid in high school, my mom did the same to me. She told me my grades need to be above a C for the car, above a B for her to cover insurance and if I managed all A’s I got gas covered too.

I got 2 d’s on one report card, and it was locked inside the garage, with her car blocking it. I had to ride the bus to school, and after school, either bum a ride to work, or ride the bus route around town. 3 months later I got all A’s and got the car back.

To this day, my mom still brings it up. Even tried to take my Mustang. Told me I didn’t deserve a nice car if I couldn’t attend family events.

There’s a video about it. The kid was smoking weed, leaving roaches in the car. Not respecting them as his parents.

The video also shows one of the parents owns a H2 Hummer, it’s from Jacksonville FL. So I’m sure they’ve tried talking about it, and the kid being 18, just didn’t care and acted a fool.

It is refreshing to see a parent actually having an active role in their child’s life, instead of expecting teachers to do it all. As a 9th grade U.S. History teacher, I can tell which students rule their houses and those that have active parents after one conversation with them. Parenting is a hard job but the choice was theirs...birth contol has been around since the 70s.

I’m in HS right now, and there a few people I know that need this type of parenting. I don’t have my license yet, but I have been promised that my car will be taken away if I mess up with my schoolwork. Luckily I don’t really get bad grades so I’m safe there, but mediocre grades will cause a shortage of gas money.

And taking the bus isn’t an option here, we don’t have them lol.

I’m actually going to partially disagree. We don’t know the whole story but usually it’s the caring, strict parents that end up with the rebellious obnoxious kids.

Don't always blame the parents some of the worst people had some of the best parents.

My dad took my car away about 6 months after I started driving because I wasn’t keeping it clean and taking care of it. Only needed that lesson taught once. 20 years of obsessive maintenance and car cleaning later.....thanks dad.

But, thanks to dad, your car is clean and probably is in alot better shape than most.

I was always one to keep my cars clean and well maintained. I just can’t stand a dirty ass car. I’ll let it slide when rain is coming, or in the winter. On good days, I’ll clean it and make up for it. It’s been a while since my Fit has seen a buffer, clay bar and wax. I paid some guy to fix the minor imperfections in my mustang’s paint. Just gotta install my coilovers, intake and exhaust.

I think this is justified. I know there are those who will blame it on the parents and yes, sometimes that is the case. However, what burns me more is seeing kids disrespect their parents when the parents did what they could to raise the kid right. Case in point, me....

I was lucky enough to get my first vehicle at 15. I worked during the summer so I got to have a workers permit. It was an 84 Ranger that was honestly not great, but it was mine. Did I respect it though? Not at first. We moved before my Sophomore year of high school to a place where I knew nobody. I smoked (yeah I know) and didn’t know anybody at first, so what did I do? I drove to Walmart one day and tried to steal a pack of cigs. This was in 1999 when they kept packs out in a shelf thing before the registers. The first time I got lucky, but the second time I got to take a ride in the back of a Vicksburg PD car. My parents worked at the fire department which just happened to be walking distance from the police station. Lovely.

So of course my stepdad thinks the whole thing is hilarious. My mom, not so much. Thankfully I did not actually have to sit in a jail cell, but you better believe I would have rather been there instead of walked back to the fire station by my mom and forced to sit in the bay for the rest of the afternoom till they got off.

So I was grounded for 6 months and had to take the bus. I learned very quickly that a.) Stealing is wrong and b.) It sucks having your ride taken from you. My parents raised me better than that and I learned a lot about respecting what I have. Eventually I got my truck back and you bet your ass I kept it in line.

I would say my car for sure is. By no means was that meant to be a shot at my dad. I truly was thanking him. I might have been angry then, but I got it pretty quickly. By him doing that, it instilled a sense of pride in me about my possessions and how to respect them. Cleaning and maintaining my car has become my brain’s escape. Turn the music on and think about the process, nothing else. It really is one of favorite things

Good luck with the installs! I would be getting wrench antsy with new parts lying around.

The suspension has been laying around for a while now. I just haven’t installed it yet, because I’ve been debating on whether or not to destroy my warranty.

The Fit is more of I’d like to see it nice looking again, just because I feel the car has deserved some attention. I mean I put 175k on it since I’ve owned it. She’s never once left me stranded, managed to dig itself out of a ditch when I hit some ice, and other than basic maintenance, only needed a battery in 175k.

I kinda wish my parents were like that with me and the car in high school, I might have learned how to study before I got to college. I mean I think I got one C but that was after I got into Georgia Tech and all I had to do attend was graduate, so I stopped caring.

You see this story pop up in ads now and again attached to various cars. My guess is it’s to get a viral boost for the listing. Either that or they don’t actually have a car to sell and they’re just trying to make a point about how kids these days are no good and permissive parenting is to blame and bring back spanking in school. weird people live on Craigslist.

We most certainly disagree if your definition of “good parent” is “strict parent”. Many people in this world are terrible at communicating, especially with children. Good parents are ones that (beyond keeping their child safe and happy) are able to communicate how to think about the world and how to make good decisions based on the available information. Strict parents raise rebellious children incapable of independent thought. Obviously neither is true 100% of the time. Just my opinion on the matter.

Like with all things, there is a balance to be found.
